tin lohr is a multi-media artist working primarily in printmaking, tattooing, and painting.

originally from western massachusetts, tin graduated from massachusetts college of art (MassArt) with a bfa in illustration in 1999.

through school, work, and self-discovery, tin has ventured down a variety of creative avenues. they moved to chicago post-college where they apprenticed as a woodworker and co-founded a performance troupe. that’s when tin focused their efforts on costuming, set design, and mentally- and visually-stimulating performances. during that time, tin and their partner began creating queer-themed carvings to print on shirts and patches for friends and fellow gender-fluid folx.

tin began printmaking in earnest in 2012, creating their first multi-block print through an Art New England intensive. with a background in illustration and woodworking, woodblock printmaking seemed a natural realization once they got their hands on the tools. tin has since sought out opportunities to allow for more exploration of the medium with various workshops and intensives.

tin’s work is primarily wildlife based. the resilience of the natural world and the creatures within it are an inspiration, giving tin strength and guidance through their own life. tin works to capture energy and motion within their images, continuing to explore how best to portray movement with a combination of mark-making and layering.

tin continues to develop printmaking techniques, using a combination of monotype, drypoint etching, and relief printing.

tin lives in middletown, ct with their partner, kiddo and four critters.
